Politics As Usual
If your anything like me, you hate politics! Especially the Presidential Election. The Dog & Pony show, Pomp & Circumstance! Since Obama its only gotten worse. Most people don’t like either candidate. It has become vote for the lesser of the 2 Evils. I can’t deal with all of it, sometimes. However, if you’re someone who believes in the political process, you know that outside of what policies they actually sign off on & supreme court justices. The President is not who we should be most concerned about.
The average person doesn’t pay attention to any political election other than Presidential, Mayor of their city. However nationwide is all El Presidente!!!
If you have an office job like myself, there are an array of conversations that can be sparked up & debated. Politics always seems to rear its head at some point. and time especially four years. Someone who tries to keep the political choice a secret always gives themselves away with a comment, facial expression or saying something they thought was true & ultimately is probably false.
I tell my coworkers quite often that social media has made most American people “sheep”. The average American follow and listen to any & everything without much thought, process or research. Information & Misinformation is so easily accessible in this day & age, it’s hard to know what is facts or fake news. (watch “The Social Dilemma” on Netflix).
Even when talking to well informed coworkers, my questions are “who is your councilman, your assembly member, your Borough President?” They have no clue or even what functions those positions serve in local government. Is the government part of the Board Education curriculum? I know for sure it wasn’t taught in my schools all the way thru high school.
I always find it weird when local Politicians start to campaign, showing their faces in neighborhoods for votes in the upcoming election but prior to that you don’t see them at all. What is really interesting is that the local government campaigns are far more important and may impact most people everyday life more than the presidential election.
More needs to be done to ensure residents of local communities understand who is really representing them, what they are doing, where they are located and why they are in those positions. W need to make important informed decisions, including votes for Congress & House of Representatives who make the laws that are important to us.
I wish there was more emphasis on those local elections rather than the presidential election.

As we continue to learn about how the political process works maybe we can effect real change. The alternative is to continue to not care and just vote on the presidential election based on thoughts & topics that have nothing to do with politics & everything to do with a popularity, because there has to be something more than the lesser of two evils.
I remember some time ago thinking to myself “who is Jordin Sparks, she can sing her ass off”. I also recall thinking that isn’t a common name I wonder if she is related to someone I know.
